Commissioner of Police, Ondo State, Felix Ohagwu, has vowed that criminals will soon meet their Waterloo, especially those operating on the Owo-Ore Expressway: “We arrested 35   suspected armed robbers and kidnappers and rescued 12 victims.”

He spoke at the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Conference in Abuja: “My vision is to focus on proactive initiatives designed to deny a safe haven to criminal elements. The command has undertaken a comprehensive re-assessment of its crime prevention strategies, with community policing serving as the foundation element of the approach.

“IGP Olatunji Disu has established the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to tackle rising cases of serious crime. VCRU is designed to serve as a strategic, specialised and rapid response strike force against violent crime nationwide. The command is committed to the mandate of the IGP to equip officers of the VCRU with the requisite knowledge and capacity for efficient, lawful and rights-compliant service delivery.

“I have visited some flash points, especially Owo-Ore Expressway, Ore-Benin Expressway and Akure-Ilesa highway. I have deployed tactical team to checkmate criminals from the highway. Police A Division, Owo, arrested three suspects over attempted murder, who attacked and inflicted severe machete wounds on their victims.
