…Cricket parades over 252 kids

Standing shoulder high as the best-organized sport in Nigeria, the Nigeria Cricket Federation, (NCF) officials this year are having a handful of budding cricket stars to manager as the National Youth Games kick-started in Asaba, Delta State.

Over 250 children from 14 States have so far participated in cricket competitions at St. Patrick’s College Cricket Ground and Government Model Secondary School venues in Asaba Delta State.

10 States are represented in the Boys ODI events where Akwa Ibom state topped Group A with 4 points from 2 matches as of Monday morning. Akwa Ibom defeated Edo and Ebonyi to remain a top medal contender. Other teams in the Male Group A are Ebonyi, Edo, Delta, and Kaduna.

The Group B teams include Anambra, Bauchi, Kwara, Lagos, and Sokoto. Kwara had defeated Lagos by 10 runs on Monday’s game while Anambra won Bauchi by 10 wickets. Kwara tops Group B with 6 points from 3 games.

Eight states are represented in the Female category, and host, Delta State leads Group A with 4 points from two games. The northern cricket powerhouse, Kaduna sits on top of the log for Group B.

The first medal ceremony for cricket is expected on Wednesday September 27.
