CP Abimbola assumes office as 49th Oyo police commissioner

CP Ayodeji Olugbenga Abimbola on Friday assumed office as the 49th Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command.

The command disclosed this in a statement signed by its Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Olayinka Ayanlade.

Abimbola took over from AIG Olufemi Haruna, who assumed office on 1st April 2025 as the 48th Commissioner of Police.

According to the statement, the new CP is a distinguished officer of the Nigeria Police Force whose career has been marked by dedication, professionalism, and exemplary leadership.

Abimbola holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and has undergone several professional courses, including the Citizenship and Leadership Course, Capacity Development Course at the Police Staff College, Jos, Community Policing Course in Benin City, Junior Command Course at Police Staff College, Jos, Tactical Leadership and Command Course (TLCC) at Police College, Kaduna, and Strategic Leadership Command Course (SLCC) at the National Institute of Police Studies, Abuja.

He was appointed into the Nigeria Police Force on 10th June 1994 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and has served with distinction across multiple states including Lagos, Abia, Delta, Borno, Kano, Yobe, Oyo, Kogi, and Bauchi, in operational, investigative, and administrative capacities.

His postings include Officer-in-Charge of Odaliki Police Post, Divisional Crime Officer at Isheri Division, Second-in-Command to the Chief Security Officer, Government House, Lagos, Divisional Police Officer in Umunede, Ughelli, Issele-Uku, and Kwale Divisions in Delta State, Police Component Commander, Operation Zaman Lafia under Operation Lafiya Dole in Borno State, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) in Oyo State, Deputy Commissioner of Police at Safer Highway, Force Headquarters, Abuja, and Commissioner of Police in charge of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) at Force Headquarters, Abuja.

“CP Olugbenga is a seasoned professional and an active member of reputable professional bodies, including being a pioneer member of the National Institute of Police Studies, Abuja, among other national and international associations,” the statement further reads.
