Chairman Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Plateau State, Comrade Eugene Manji has called on Federal and State Government to provide bail-out funds for public servants to combat the scourge of COVID-19 pandamic.
Comrade Manji disclosed this on Wednesday to marked the 2020 world day for decent work tagged “A new social contract for recovery and resilience” held at the NLC Secretariat, Jos, Plateau State.
He lamented that the COVID-19 pandamic has claimed some of his members and inflicted pains and agony on others which he said call for bail out fund to enable them commence new businesses.
“The financial and humanitarian impact of the COVID-19 is already a global health challenge that has come to stay with us and Government should protect workers, supply chains and encouraged workers to undertake small businesses.
“It is worthy to that the global health and economic consequences of COVID-19 pandamic is already biting harder and harder affecting workers in different nations including Nigeria.
“Government should include workers in their bail-out funds to assist workers establish small businesses that will supplement their meagre monthly income.”
He expressed worry that health workers, transport workers and the retail and service sectors are among those that are worst hit by the pandamic due to their risk exposure without adequate personal protecting equipments.
Comrade Manji explained that Workers in Plateau are faced with grave economic crisis ranging from non-implementation of the new minimum wage, non-payment of COVID-19 allowances to Frontline health workers in the 17 LGA.
