The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has dismissed reports that about 109 Corps members at its various orientation camps nationwide have tested positive for COVID-19, denying that the Service is on red alert.
The NYSC, in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Adenike Adeyemi, insisted that all prospective Corps members underwent compulsory COVID-19 tests before admission into the 37 camps across the country, stressing that only those that test negative were admitted.
The Service further emphasised in the statement that it applied the same rule to the camp officials, revealing that those that test positive were handed over to the NCDC for treatment and management.
‘It is pertinent to state that there is a gulf of difference between a Corps member and a prospective Corps member. One becomes a Corps member after admittance into the camp, registers and administered the Oath of National Allegiance.
‘Anyone mobilised for Service, but has not gone through the aforesaid process is not a Corps member. Management hereby restates that there is no COVID-19 positive Corps member in any of the 37 NYSC orientation camps nationwide.
“In view of the foregoing explanation, there is no red alert in NYSC orientation camps, as all Corps members, as well as camp officials admitted into the camps, are COVID-19 negative,’ the NYSC stressed in the statement.
