Remember me, O LORD, with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people: O visit me with thy salvation
There is a special favour which God gives to His covenant people. It is a favour induced by covenant.
This favour is best understood by looking at the favours a wife receives from her husband and vice versa.
A man would treat his wife differently from how he would treat another woman because by covenant, he feels what, in the Hebrew is called ‘Hesed’, meaning loyal love or loving-kindness, towards his wife. She therefore enjoys certain favours because of this covenant which she has with him.
This type of favour is one which is induced by covenant and can best be described as covenant favour.
There are times when such a wife may do things which the husband may not be pleased with. However, loyal love, loving-kindness or Hesed still remains loyal to you in spite of your faults.
To the wife, she may feel such favours received at such times are undeserved because she is conscious of her faults but to the husband, he is merely acting based on loyal love.
God expresses Hesed, loyal love or loving-kindness towards you because of his covenant with you. Even when you are unfaithful, God remains faithful to you.
2Timothy 2: 13 says ‘If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.’
If you walk out of faith, His favour stays faithful towards you; although your unbelief may stop you from receiving it.
God does not think that his children do not deserve his favour and love; actually God thinks you deserve all the favours in the world because of your faith in Christ Jesus.
God thinks that your faith in Christ Jesus is the most upright act anyone could have carried out. Believing in Jesus and in God’s word for your life is the most impressive thing anyone ever did that it thrills God so much that He is willing to treat you with so much favours.
Did you know that your faith thrills and impresses God? Nothing thrills God the way faith in the heart of a believer does. Your faith excites God to the extent he rewards your faith with serious favours in the way He treats you, compared to how He treats other people.
Abraham experienced serious favours from God to the extent that God was willing to save Abraham’s nephew, Lot, in Sodom even though no one really deserved to survive in Sodom because of the unrighteousness of the place.
Abraham was called the friend of God and God fought his battles for Him to the extent that Abraham returned from the battle against five kings, singing of God’s faithfulness to God’s priest who was named after Abraham’s son, Melchizedek.
Abimelech almost got killed by God when he took Sarah, Abraham’s wife. All of these Abraham experienced simply because Abraham’s faith gave him uncommon access into God’s favours.
God’s covenant between his people separates the just who walks by faith in the covenant into a unique class of life, inducing uncommon favours.
But God’s favours must not be abused. 1Timothy 6:17-18- Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate.
God wants you to be rich and He gives a revelation of why He wants you to be rich and how He wants you to conduct yourself with respect to the wealth He gives you.
First, God says if you are rich, you should not be high minded. Do not think that you are more important than other people because you have money.
Secondly, do not make your riches your God or put your trust in all the money you have because you could easily lose all the physical things you possess. Rather, put your trust in the living God, believing in Him for protection and provision because He is the God who gives us all things to enjoy.
Third, do good like Jesus. He went about doing good. Our Jesus did good by preaching the good news. Use your resources to preach the gospel.
Be rich in good works, be ready to distribute or give into the necessity of the saints, and be willing to communicate like the Phillipians did with anointed men and women of God, who God has placed in your life.
In Luke Chapter 8 from verse 1 to 3, the scripture records that when Jesus preached from city to city, there were certain people who were with Him in their finances.
Among them was Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others, who ministered unto Him of their substance.
The reason why God wants you to have financial favours is so that you can use your money to support anointed ministers who are actively doing the work of preaching the gospel.
In 1Kings 17 verse 9, God asked Elijah to arise and go to Zarephath, which belongs to Zidon, and dwell there: And He said, ‘behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.’
Some of you, like the widow of Zarephath, have been commanded by God to take care of your pastors and the ministers of God which God has placed in your lives.
This woman had only a meal of flour and cruise of oil when Elijah got to her house, but her prosperity was going to be based on her willingness to obey the command of the Lord.
She had to sow into Elijah’s life first. She had very little and was actually going to eat it and die. But God blessed her obedience and she continued prospering as she continued to sustain Elijah.
Have you heard God commanding you to take care of the men and women of God He has placed in your life? What are you doing to obey that command? Your prosperity is going to be dependent on you obeying God’s instructions.
