A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has restrained the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabiru Yusuf from appointing and confirming the appointments of the Interim Management Committees for the 44 Local Government Councils of the state.

The Committees were billed to succeed the democratically elected Chairmen of these Local Government Areas whose tenure had elapsed a few days ago.

The federal court presided by Justice I . A Liman also restrained the Attorney General of the Federation and the Accountant General of the Federation from allowing and releasing the Federation Account to the Kano State government the share of the Kano State Local Government Councils meant for democratically elected officers to run the affairs of the Councils.

The order followed a suit filed by Haruna Abbas Babangida with the Governor of the state, the state Commissioner for Justice, Kano House of Assembly, Kano State Independent Electoral Commission, Attorney General of the Federation and Accountant General of the Federation as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th , 5th and 6th respondents.

The court also granted leave for the Baliff of the court to serve the Governor, including the 1st , 2nd, 3rd  respondents with all the processes and subsequent processes through any staff or officer in the office of the Attorney General of the State.

The court, therefore, fixed the hearing of the interlocutory injunction for the 14th day of March, 2024 while ordering the applicant to serve all the processes within 24 hours from the enrolment of the order.

It could be recalled that the Kano State House of Assembly had Thursday concluded the screening of these appointees,  resolving to submit their names to the Governor of the state for confirmation.
