Court remands seven suspects over kidnap, death of UCTH Professor, others

The Federal High Court sitting in Calabar has ordered the remand of six suspects over the abduction and murder of a University of Calabar Teaching Hospital Professor, Ekanem Ephraim.

They include Patrick Etim ( PATO), ; Etim Effiong ( IT-CAN-HAPPEN) Anthony Essien Etim, (HUMBLE); Bassey Anthigha Asuquo; Isaac Uwem Ekpeyong (Kemzy Stunt) Ekpeyong Effiok Eyo (YOBO) and Imoh Udofa (IMOPART).

Justice Rosemary Dugbo of Federal High Court 2, Calabar, Cross River State ordered the six suspects be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Afokang, Calabar South.

The case which is marked FHC/CA/M10/26 is between the State Security Service Versus Patrick Etim and six others. During hearing, the security agency filed a Motion Exparte asking for an order to detain the suspects at the Correctional Centre.

The court ordered their remand in correctional custody pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions and adjourned the case to April 21, 2026.

The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on various dates, between December 2025 and January 2026, following investigations into a series of kidnapping and criminal activities within Calabar and its environs.

The suspects are linked to the kidnapping and death of the late Professor Ekanem Phillip Ephraim and six other victims of kidnappings.
