An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday, remanded a 52-year-old man, Idowu Omodaratan, in a Correctional Centre in Ado-Ekiti for allegedly defiling an 8-year-old girl.

The Chief Magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, who did not take the plea of Omodaratan, ordered that the case file should be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Babalogbon adjourned the case until October 7 for mention.

The defendant, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of rape.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on August 27 at Abuja Camp in Ilawe-Ekiti.

Adeniyi said that the defendant allegedly defiled the girl in a bush where she went to ease herself.

“When the defendant was passing by, he saw her in the bush and took advantage of her, her shout attracted her mother, and the defendant was arrested,” the prosecutor said.

Adeniyi said that the offence contravened Section 31 of the Child Right Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
