Court remands man, 47, over alleged murder

arrested-handcuffed

A Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Friday ordered the remand of a 47-year-old man, Olaniyan Abass, in a correctional facility over an alleged murder.

The Magistrate, Mrs Oluwabusayo Osho, did not take the plea of the defendant for want of jurisdiction.

She directed the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

Osho adjourned the case until June 25, for mention.

The prosecutor, Insp Adeshina Folaranmi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 19, at about 7.00 a.m., at the Ariyo area, Ibadan.

He alleged that the defendant unlawfully caused the death of a 43-year-old woman, Jelilat Oladejo by strangulating her.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Folaranmi said the offence contravened Section 319 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
