Court order restores work at FCTA after halted strike

Activities at the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and its affiliated ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) resumed on Wednesday following a National Industrial Court order suspending a workers’ strike.

The court, presided over by Justice E. D. Subilim, directed the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) to halt the industrial action immediately, paving the way for continued dialogue. The ruling was delivered on Tuesday amid ongoing labour disputes.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike swiftly urged compliance, emphasising that while rights to protest are upheld, court orders must be obeyed. “Resume duty immediately,” Wike stated on Tuesday, reinforcing the administration’s respect for judicial authority.

Acting Head of the FCT Civil Service, Nancy Sabanti, backed the directive with a circular dated 27 January 2026. It mandated all secretariats, departments, and agencies to reopen, maintain strict attendance registers, and ensure full resumption. Permanent secretaries and heads of parastatals were tasked with enforcement, alongside reaffirmations of commitment to staff welfare.

A spot check at FCTA offices and MDAs on Wednesday revealed strong compliance. Workers were visible in premises and offices, diligently carrying out routine duties, signalling a return to normal operations.
