Court fixes Sept 29 for judgement on Ibas’ service commission’s inauguration

Ibas

Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas

From Tony John, Port Harcourt

A High Court of Rivers State sitting in Port Harcourt has fixed September 29, to deliver judgement on suit stopping the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd), from swearing in newly confirmed chairman and members of the Rivers State Service Commission.

Presiding judge, Justice Frank Onyiri, scheduled the judgement for September 29, after parties adopted their final written addresses on the suit by chairman and members of the Rivers State Service Commission appointed by the suspended governor, Siminalayi Fubara, challenging their suspension by the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibas.

The judge again ordered the parties to maintain status quo pending the judgement of the court on the case before it.

The judge had in April, issued an order barring the sole administrator from inaugurating the newly appointed chairman and members of the commission.

The claimants, Rev GoodLife Iduoku Ben, Amadi Christian Echele, Chimenem Wisdom Jerome and three others are challenging what they described as “their illegal sack” by the sole administrator, and move to place them without due process.

They (claimants) are contending that they were legally appointed and confirmed by the Rivers State House of Assembly and that before they were issued letters of appointment by the governor, records of their confirmation were with the Clerk of the House.

According to the affidavit signed by Iduoku Ben, the claimants are insisting that the sole administrator lacks the legal powers to suspend them and appoint new chairman and members of the commission.

Defendants in the suit are the Sole Administrator of the state, Vice Admiral Ibas, Accountant General, Access Bank, Zenith Bank and 11 others.
