Court grants Benue application to institute criminal case against MAKH

A Makurdi High Court has granted an application brought by the Benue State government seeking criminal indictment against the leadership of cattle breeders group, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore (MAKH), for instigating attacks on innocent people of the state between  31 December, 2017 and 1st January, 2018.

State council Barr Andrew Wombo, who filed the motion on behalf of the state government, in an interview with newsmen after the application was granted, said the state was charging MAKH to court on a 8-count charges ranging from grievous hurts, arson culpable homicide, murder, conspiracy, mischief by fire among others.

“We are here in the court to institute a criminal case against the leadership of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore and some Fulani herdsmen who instigated attacks on innocent civilians between the 31 day of December 2017 and 1st of January 2018, in Guma and Logo local government areas of Benue State. The court has granted our application to charge them to court and we are going charge them immediately.”

Wombo, who explained that the MAKH were charged to court under Section 185 of the criminal procedure code CASE NUMBER: MHC/69, disclosed further that the Benue State government is seeking for their conviction if they are found guilty.

He added that, “We are going to serve them with the charge. They have to come to court to defend themselves.”
