With exactly 100 days to the 2027 general elections, the Peter Obi Media Office has raised the alarm over alleged attempts to induce Nigerians with money and other benefits in exchange for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), warning citizens against surrendering their voting rights.
The media office, in a statement issued on Thursday by its spokesman, Idris Zekeri Jnr, alleged that some politicians were taking advantage of economic hardship to compromise voters and the electoral process ahead of the polls.
It also alleged that some state governors were collecting the PVCs of citizens, including civil servants, in exchange for payment of their salaries and allowances.
The Obi media office urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and reject what it described as attempts to compromise their votes through financial inducements or other benefits.
“Exactly 100 days left to election day, we urge Nigerians to remain vigilant against anyone offering money or inducements in exchange for your vote, your PVC, or participation in any scheme aimed at compromising the electoral process,” the statement said.
It alleged that reports from some states indicated that certain governors, “who have nothing positive to show to persuade their citizens,” were collecting PVCs from citizens in exchange for the payment of their legitimate salaries and allowances.
According to the statement, such alleged practices could undermine citizens’ ability to independently exercise their franchise during the election.

“Your PVC is not for sale. Your vote is not for sale. Your future is not for sale,” the media office said.
It urged voters to collect their PVCs and keep them secure, while reporting any suspected attempt to manipulate the electoral process to the appropriate authorities.
The statement further urged Nigerians to turn out on election day, vote according to their conscience and insist that their votes are counted.
“On election day, turn out, vote according to your conscience, protect your ballot, and insist that your vote counts,” it said.
The media office also called on voters to “defend your vote legally” and participate in protecting the electoral process.
“Hold your PVC firmly. Use it responsibly. Defend your vote legally. Defend your democracy and create a new Nigeria that will be possible and OK,” it charged.
