COSEYL hails Senator Orji Kalu as most respected political leader in South East

The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), the apex socio-political youth organization in the South East geopolitical zone, has described Senator Orji Uzor Kalu as the most respected political leader in the region, citing his influence, sacrifices, and steadfast commitment to democracy.

In a statement signed by its President General, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, and made available to Daily Sun on Wednesday, the group commended Senator Kalu, who represents Abia North Senatorial District, for his “unwavering dedication to advancing democracy and improving the welfare of his people.”

According to COSEYL, Senator Kalu’s political influence has been instrumental in shaping the recent wave of realignments within the South East, particularly the defections of opposition governors, lawmakers, and other prominent figures to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The group credited his political experience and leadership acumen for fostering greater unity and representation of the region at the national level.

“Senator Kalu has consistently proven himself to be a relentless advocate for the Ndigbo and democracy at large,” the statement read. “His unwavering stance, even in the face of adversity, reflects a true leader who prioritizes the welfare of the people over personal interest.”

COSEYL also lauded Kalu for what it described as his “unparalleled sacrifices for democracy,” noting his past challenges, including the revocation of his airline license under former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, which it said resulted from his principled political stance.

The group emphasized that Kalu’s commitment and personal investment in the political emancipation of the South East have earned him deep respect across Nigeria. “He knows the challenges faced by our people and has taken significant steps to address them,” COSEYL added.

Reaffirming its support for the former Abia State governor, the coalition urged other leaders in the region to emulate his example of courage, consistency, and service to the people.

“Senator Orji Uzor Kalu remains a hero of democracy and a true son of the South East,” the statement concluded.
