- Coordinator assures of adequate security
From John Adams Minna
After the temporary relocation to Abuja for its orientation exercise, the management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Niger state has returned back to the state for its orientation exercise.
This follows the ongoing complete rehabilitation of infrastructures at the permanent orientation camp at paiko, the headquarters of Paikoro local government area of the state.
Recalled that worried by the condition of the infrastructures at the orientation camp, the management of the NYSC decided to relocate temporary to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory for its orientation exercise.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream one corps members at the Paiko Orientation Camp on Friday, the state coordinator Mrs. Martina Shuaibu-Ibrahim said the management decided to return back to the camp following the upgrade of facilities at the camp by the state government.
The coordinator disclosed that the intervention by the state government had transformed the facilities at the camp into a more secure and conducive environment for a successful three-week orientation exercise.
Mrs. Shuaibu Ibrahim while expressing gratitude to the state government for the prompt intervention, pointed out that the state of the infrastructure at the camp before now had posed a great challenge to the management, hence the decision to temporary relocate to Abuja for orientation exercise.
According to her, “the infrastructural challenges had threatened our operational readiness, but we thank God that the state Governor, Umaru Mohammed Bago responded by fast-tracking extensive renovation and upgrading of the camp’s facilities”.
She expressed happiness that the intervention had enabled the NYSC to resume operations at the camp under improved conditions, describing the facility as “secure, close to comfortable, and conducive”.
The state coordinator disclosed further that the camp is expected to accommodate about 3,100 corps members for the current exercise, and this she said comprised of 2,300 deployed to Niger State and another 800 posted from the Federal Capital Territory for their orientation in the state.
She therefore commended the Niger State Government for what she described as a major investment in the rehabilitation and transformation of the camp, adding that the intervention demonstrated the state’s commitment to youth development and the welfare of corps members.
The Batch ‘C’ Stream one orientation exercise marks the beginning of a three-week programme of drills, lectures and other activities aimed at preparing the corps members for the National Youth Service.
While assuring the Corp members of adequate security while in the camp, she urged them to comply with camp rules and remain security-conscious throughout the orientation period.
She nonetheless cautioned them against cultism, drug abuse, fake news, hate speech and other activities that could undermine peace and security within the camp.
She appealed to security agencies, traditional rulers, local government chairmen and other stakeholders to continue in their support towards the success of NYSC programmes and the welfare and security of corp members posted to the state for the one year mandatory service.
