No fewer than 26 students in the Department of Architecture, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka participated in the ARCREATE 3.0 exhibition as part of the 54th convocation ceremony.

Among the artwork on display include grafts, pencil works, painting, poetry, word art, photography, digital art, fashion, product design, architecture models and 3D renderings.
The university management led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, Prof. Toyin Folola of University of Texas Austin, National President, UNILAG Alumni Association, Engr. Ifeoluwa Oyedele, National Secretary of the Alumni, Chief Adebisi Ogundipe and several other students visited the exhibition stand.
An elated Prof. Ogunsola appreciated the department for showcasing the students’ art works and commended the students for their creative works.
The VC challenged the students to take their works to the next level and make UNILAG proud.
Emotion took the better of some students, especially year one, as they tried to explain the theme of their art works to the VC and other dignitaries.
The Dean, Faculty of Architecture, Prof. Modupe Omirin described the occasion as a special celebration of the beauty of the students talents and creativity through the exhibition of their art works expressed through various media.
She added: “It is an opportunity to let the world know that Architecture is ensconced in the brilliance of combinations of lines, shapes, forms, colours and the infusion of appreciation of nature and all that it offers.
“It is the combination of these with the technological aspects of structural design that makes our world aesthetically pleasing and beautiful.”
She said the faculty took the exhibition as an opportunity to showcase skills beyond core aspects of Architecture.
Prof. Omirin enjoined staff to continue to support and encourage the sustenance of the exhibition as a way of enabling the students to bring out their best for the aesthetic pleasure of the university and the world at large.
Acting Head of Department, Architecture, Dr. Paul Obi observed that over the years, the department has organized ARCREATE exhibitions to showcase students’ art works.
According to him, the students are thrilled and staffs are proud to be associated with the high level of creativity exhibited by the students.
“We are at the top of the architecture education in this country. We have bragging rights due to the CAA accreditation, which only our school has in all of Nigeria,” the HOD stressed.
A 100 level Muhammed Khairat Ahuoiza, whose stand was the first to be visited by the VC and other guests, felt excited. She said the title of her work is: Ahuoiza on the Indomie.
Isesele Osemudiamen Susan, a final year student in the Department of Architecture, said it was her first exhibition but has been painting since JSS3 and conducted the VC and others round her stand.
“My paintings are centered around the visual representation and actualisation of various natural phenomena on canvas. I am passionate about painting people and aspects of nature in any reality,” Isesele explained.
Kayode Atunrase, a master student in the Architecture department, who has participated in the last two editions of Arcreate, said he is grateful for the opportunity to showcase his works.
He added: “My brand focuses on the decolonisation of Nigerian fashion by promoting age old crafts and techniques that better suit the Nigerian climate, and adapting them into 21st century fashion.”
