Nigerian music continues to witness the emergence of a new generation of independent artists leveraging digital platforms to build audiences and establish distinctive identities, with Latman DA BlackLemonade among the talents gradually attracting attention.
Born Yakubu Lateef Lucky, the Delta State-born entertainer has been steadily developing his career through music releases and digital distribution, carving a path for himself within Nigeria’s fast-evolving Afro-influenced music scene.
The artiste, whose music is available across various streaming and digital platforms, has built a growing catalogue that includes songs such as Call You Later and Hossana.
For Latman DA BlackLemonade, the journey is largely about finding his own voice and remaining authentic to his creative vision.

“Music is my way of expressing myself. I want people to listen to my songs and connect with the emotions, stories and experiences behind them. I am not trying to sound like anyone else; I am focused on building a sound that people can identify with,” he said.
Unlike artistes who began their careers under major record labels, Latman DA BlackLemonade represents a growing category of digital-era musicians using streaming platforms, social media and online music communities to reach listeners without depending entirely on traditional industry structures.
“Being independent comes with its challenges, but it also gives me the freedom to make decisions about my music and direction. I believe consistency and patience are important because building something meaningful takes time,” he added.
His musical identity reflects contemporary Nigerian sounds, with elements of Afro-inspired rhythms, melodic song-writing and themes drawn from everyday experiences.
The artiste also recognises the growing importance of digital visibility in shaping the careers of emerging musicians.
“Today, an artiste can reach people in different parts of the world without necessarily having a major record label behind them. The internet has changed the game, and I want to take advantage of that opportunity while continuing to improve my craft,” he said.
