Nasarawa State Lawmaker, Honorable Esson Mairiga, representing Lafia North Constituency, has urgently called upon both Federal and State Governments to expedite the completion of the Assakio-Ashige bridge, following its collapse.
He emphasized the critical need to address the situation before the onset of the rainy season, citing the severe difficulties faced by commuters along the Assakio-Ashige road.
Expressing his concern during a visit to the site of the collapsed bridge on Friday, Honorable Esson highlighted the detrimental impact on agricultural and socio-economic activities within the region.
NoHe underscored the bridge’s significance in linking various agricultural communities, stressing that its delay could jeopardize food security and economic stability in the area.
In a poignant appeal, Honorable Esson urged the contractor responsible for the project to accelerate efforts towards completion, cautioning that failure to do so could warrant contract revocation by the Federal Government. He lamented the distress faced by commuters and the destruction of valuable property due to the unavailability of alternative routes.
Highlighting the road’s importance as an alternative route to Plateau State, Honorable Esson emphasized the daily reliance of motorists and locals on the Assakio-Ashige road for market access and agricultural endeavors. He warned of dire consequences for the region’s economic vitality should the bridge remain incomplete, urging swift governmental intervention.
Assuring constituents of his unwavering commitment, Honorable Esson pledged to exhaust all avenues to expedite the bridge’s reconstruction. He implored both residents and motorists to remain patient as efforts are underway to address the urgent situation and ensure the timely restoration of the road.
Echoing the sentiments of local communities, Youth Leader Mr. Daniel Agya expressed dismay over the prolonged delay in bridge reconstruction, sympathizing with affected individuals and travelers. Similarly, driver Mr. Usman Nura, stranded due to the bridge collapse, appealed to the government for swift action to alleviate the suffering endured by motorists and road users.
