Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has reinstated the traditional rulers of Amasiri and Ndukwe in Afikpo Local Government Area of the state who were dethroned over the communal war between the people of Amasiri in the local government and their Okporo neighbours in Oso Edda, Edda Local Government Area of the state.
The two traditional rulers; Basil Onya and Godfrey Oko, were dethroned in January this year during the protracted crisis between the two communities.
In a statement he personally signed on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, Nwifuru said the longstanding Amasiri -Edda boundary dispute has created pain, loss, and tension among the warring communities for far too long. He disclosed that he has received an interim report of the boundary Adjustment Demarcation Committee on the boundary dispute to find a lasting solution to the crisis.
“We cannot allow a conflict that has lingered for generations to continue to undermine the peace and development of our state. Our mission is not to favour anyone or any community. Our interest is peace -peace that will give us development. Where there is no peace, there is no development.
“I have, therefore, directed that the status quo ante bellum be maintained as the demarcation exercise continues. No one should interfere with or trespass on another person’s land. I have also directed that the two traditional rulers of Ndukwe and Amasiri be reinstated.
“We are willing to make peace and we will continue to work for peace across Ebonyi State”, Nwifuru said.
