It was double delight for Team Nigeria late Tuesday night as the duo of Onyekwere Chioma and Ameachi Obiageri light up the camp with medals in the Discuss event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Phenomenal Chioma grabbed the gold medal after a series of outstanding throws while another bright light, Amaechi Obiageri finished on the podium with a bronze medal in the same event.

However, Adeyinka Benson failed in the quarterfinals of the Men’s Middleweight boxing in the 71-75kg after Scotland’s Sam Hickey defeated him.

But Esther Oshoba qualified to the quarterfinals of the Women’s 54kg-57kg Featherweight Boxing event after she defeated Erin Walsh from New Zealand.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Table Tennis team fell like a pack of cards to England in the losers’ final.

In Men’s doubles, the duo of Bode Abiodun and Olajide Omotayo lost by 11-6, 11-7, 11-77 to England’s Tom Jarvis and Paul Drinkhall.

Liam Pitchford defeated Aruna Quadri by 11-9, 9-11, 12- 10, 11-6 points, Olajide Omotayo also lost in straight sets to Paul Drinkhall by 11-4, 11-2, 11-4 in men’s singles.

Similarly, Sule Nasiru defeated Canadian Muhammad Mudassar after a brilliant 3-0 win, as he emerged victorious in his first match of the Table Tennis Men’s event in the Para category.
