The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has called on Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) to deploy Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) to newly established and remote military barracks, while also expanding support for wounded soldiers, widows and orphans of fallen heroes.
The appeal came yesterday when the COAS received a delegation from GTBank at the Army Headquarters, Abuja, reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s commitment to leveraging public-private partnerships to improve personnel welfare and operational effectiveness.
According to the acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the GTBank delegation was led by its Executive Director, Mr. Ahmed Liman, during a courtesy visit to the Army Headquarters on July 30, 2026.
Lieutenant General Shaibu described GTBank as a dependable institutional partner whose innovative financial services continue to complement the Army’s transformation drive by promoting financial inclusion, improving administrative efficiency and enhancing the welfare of personnel.
He noted that the Presidential approval for increased recruitment and the ongoing expansion of the Nigerian Army require a responsive, technology-driven banking system capable of delivering seamless financial services to personnel across formations nationwide.
The Army Chief commended GTBank’s leadership in digital banking and expressed confidence that an enhanced partnership would further improve financial service delivery and strengthen the Army’s operational readiness.

In line with the Nigerian Army’s “Soldier First” welfare philosophy, the COAS urged the bank to expand its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives to include support for wounded-in-action personnel, widows and orphans of fallen heroes.
He also requested the installation of Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) in newly established and remote military barracks to improve access to banking services, reduce unnecessary troop movement and enhance operational responsiveness.
In his remarks, GTBank Executive Director, Mr. Ahmed Liman, commended the Nigerian Army for its commitment to defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and reaffirmed the bank’s readiness to deepen collaboration through tailored financial solutions.
He said the bank would continue to support the Army’s operational and administrative requirements while ensuring full compliance with the Treasury Single Account (TSA) policy.
Liman highlighted GTBank’s specialised services for government institutions, including dedicated trade desks for processing Letters of Credit to facilitate defence procurement, secure digital platforms for salary administration and contractor payments, as well as institutional funds management solutions.
He also presented the bank’s military-focused products, notably the GT Patriot Account, which offers waived banking charges and concessionary lending rates for military personnel, alongside GT Pensions Management services designed to enhance the long-term financial security of Nigerian Army personnel
