A football player agent and President Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Water FC of Abuja, Nureni Makanjuola, has charged Nigerian players to make discipline and humility their watchword of they want to achieve success in their career.
Makanjuola gave the advice on the sideline after a friendly game between his team (Water FC) and City FC both Abuja-based to mark this year’s Father’s Day and Sallah celebrations.
He stressed that a player or sports person who makes effective use of discipline, determination and dedication in his career will not only have a successful one but also make impact even after his sporting days.
The international football agent further noted that the football friendly match was also used mark the 70th birthday anniversary of Gboyega Fatimilehin as well as promoting community engagement among Abuja residents and its environs in the spirit of Sallah.
His words; “Discipline is the bedrock of whatever you want to achieve in life. As a father, you have to be responsible, disciplined and focused even as a player or sports man or woman. Some players engage in all sorts of negative things but they should not go with the crowd, they have to be distinct and let people know them for who they are.
“So, I am imploring them (the players) to embrace the three Ds; Discipline, Determination and Dedication. If they do, they will go a long way in their careers and will be successful.
“We are using the tournament to celebrate Father’s Day and Ileya (Sallah) Day, most especially our father, Gboyega Fatimilehin, who clocks 70. This is all about our community and to make our people go together in love and harmony,” he said.
Though his team lost to their visitors City FC by 0-3, Makanjuola promised to continue to expose his players to tough opposition so they can grow in confidence, adding that his boys have picked a lot of positives from City FC and will continue to improve without losing focus.
“They (City FC) are playing in the league (NLO), we are not, but that should not be an excuse. We are just grooming a new set of players in Water FC. We have exposed our players to different challenges and they are learning fast.
“We know City FC is a good team and that is why we invited them. Losing to them is not a big deal but rather a learning curve for us; the technical crew and the players,” the Water FC boss noted while fielding questions from sports writers.
