As the global conversation around Afrobeats is expanding beyond club-ready production into live instrumentation and large-format performances, Nigerian violinist and music director Clinton Akinkuolie, popularly known as Clintonic Strings has positioned himself at the forefront of a new sonic movement he calls Afrochestra.

Conceived in 2024 and fully unveiled to the public at his February 8 live concert ‘Symphonies of Clintonic Strings 6.0’, Afrochestra represents a deliberate fusion of classical orchestral music, Afrobeats, and old-school African sounds, executed through his ensemble, Ace Orchestra. The concept predates the recent surge of orchestral-Afrobeats experiments now gaining mainstream attention, marking Clintonic  Strings as an early architect of the sound.

“Afrobeats Music meet Orchestra music – Afrochestra was formed  to promoting the luxurious African music culture background/fusion of Classical music  through a rich blend

of well-scored contemporary instrumentations with Nigerian Artists,” said Clintonic  Strings. “Afrochestra was created in 2024 under the umbrella of Symphonies of Clintonic strings featuring the Ace orchestra.  Afrochestra is the new global sound.”

From inception, Afrochestra was not a last-minute branding decision but a carefully planned creative direction. All promotional materials, creative messaging, and audience engagement around the February 2025 concert were built around the Afrochestra identity throughout 2024, signaling a long-term vision rather than a one-off performance.

Powered by Ace Orchestra, a collective known for technical excellence and musical versatility, the Afrochestra sound is designed to preserve the emotional depth of classical arrangements while retaining the sound and street credibility of Afrobeats. The orchestra has previously collaborated with leading industry names and award ‘’Headies award’’  Olamide (Baddo), Kizz Daniel, Fireboy DML, Skales, Ric hassani and Kenny Blaq, as well as major platforms such as Dapper Entertainment on projects like Trenches Symphony and the Reckless Music Comedy Festival.

According to Clintonic, Symphonies of Clinton’s Strings 6.0’, served as a proof of concept, demonstrating how orchestral arrangements can coexist organically with contemporary African pop without diluting either form. Rather than adapting Afrobeats to fit classical rules, Afrochestra re-engineers orchestral music to move with African rhythm, storytelling, and performance culture.
