Tragedy struck in Amutenyi, Obollo-Afor in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State on Saturday as the wife of a clergyman, her two children and two sisters were found dead in their house.

The woman identified as the wife of Adolphus Odo and the other four victims were said to have died in their sleep after they went to bed on Friday night.

The horrific incident was discovered when a friend of one of the victims, who had an early morning appointment with her, went to their house to call her, but had to raise the alarm after calling severally at the house without anybody responding. Neighbours who gathered following the alarm forced the door open and discovered the five lifeless bodies.

Chairman of the local government, Solomon Onah, who confirmed the incident, said it had thrown the council into the morning.

He said: “We saw their dead bodies early this Saturday morning. We are yet to identify the cause of the deaths but one of the victims had been taken to Enugu Metropolis for autopsy.

“When we went to their house, we saw a locally-made charcoal stove in the room where they died, though there was no fire on it. We cannot suspect generator fumes because they did not use the generator last night. We are yet to identify the cause of the incident until we get the result of the autopsy.”
