The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, will on February 25 swear in the newly appointed Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Joseph Oyewole.

The inauguration is scheduled to be held on Wednesday at Courtroom Two, Supreme Court Complex, Abuja, by 2 pm.

The bench of the apex court had recently depleted with the retirement of some justices upon attainment of the mandatory retirement age.

Justice Oyewole, prior to his elevation, had served as a Justice of the Court of Appeal and Presiding Justice of the Enugu Division.

His appointment was said to have underscored the commitment of the Nigerian judiciary to upholding the rule of law, ensuring justice and strengthening the bench with experienced and dedicated jurists.

A statement on Sunday by the Director of Information and Public Relations of the apex court, Dr Festus Akande, said that the new justice will bring his wealth of legal expertise and integrity to the Supreme Court to further enhance its capacity to deliver fair and timely judgements.

The statement explained that the inauguration will mark another step in rejuvenating the judiciary and ensuring the continued delivery of justice in line with the highest standards of integrity, competence and impartiality.

Akande said that all invited guests are to adhere strictly to the court’s protocols and security measures.

“The Supreme Court of Nigeria remains committed to the principles of justice, fairness, and judicial independence for the benefit of all Nigerians,” the statement said.
