A group, under the auspices of Civil Society Coalition for Transparency and Good Governance, has joined the growing list of Nigerians drumming support for the passage of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Trust Fund.
Speaking when it paid courtesy visit on the Director-General of the Scheme, Brigadier General Mohammad Fadah, in Abuja, Executive Secretary of the organisation, Comrade Victor Udom, appealed for more efforts towards ensuring the passage of the Bill.
“I urge the Director-General to ignore the negative comments and perception of the Bill and put in his best to ensure that the Trust Fund Bill is passed into law.
“We, at the coalition, will lend our voices to the scheme and we also call on the National Assembly as well as the presidency to ensure the passage of the Bill into law. We also call on President Muhammadu Buhari to leave a legacy in the minds of the youths and Nigerians by ensuring that he signs the NYSC Trust Fund Bill into law,” the Coalition pleaded.
Speaking further, Udom charged the Director General to put in his best in getting things right in the scheme and avoid anything that would lead to confrontation and protest.
In his response, the NYSC boss quipped that only ignorant people criticize the Trust Fund, adding that they lack knowledge of the benefits.
He also said that the actualisation of the Trust Fund would improve the affairs of the scheme better than it has been.
He explained that; “with the Trust fund in place, corps members who have learnt various enterpreneural and vocational skills during the service years, would find it easier accessing loans to start up their businesses.”
Fadah further noted that with the Trust Fund, there would be massive improvement in the orientation programmes, emphasising that the fund would be beneficial to the scheme and the society at large.
“I want to assured that I will meet up the expectations in taking the scheme to greater heights. I am open for discussions on any challenge,” he promised.
