The Federal Civil Service has been directed to scale down ceremonial activities and observe the three-day national mourning declared in honour of Nigerian Air Force personnel killed in a military aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Olumuyiwa Abel, gave the directive to Ministries, Extra-Ministerial Offices and other Federal Government institutions as the nation mourns the fallen personnel.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Eno Olotu, Abel directed that the National Flag and other appropriate official flags be flown at half-mast across Federal Government offices and institutions throughout the mourning period.
The national mourning, which commenced on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, was declared by the Federal Government following the deaths of the Air Force personnel in the crash.
Abel also directed government offices to suspend or postpone non-essential ceremonial, celebratory and social activities during the period, in deference to the solemn mood of the nation.
He, however, clarified that essential government business and official engagements would continue where necessary, stressing that such activities should be conducted with due regard to the national mourning.

The HCSF further directed that official communications, publicity materials and media engagements during the period should appropriately reflect the mood of the nation and acknowledge the service and sacrifice of the deceased personnel.
Abel said the fallen personnel had made the ultimate sacrifice in the service and defence of Nigeria, expressing condolences to their families, colleagues and loved ones.
He said the mourning period offered Nigerians an opportunity to collectively honour the deceased and demonstrate solidarity with their bereaved families, colleagues and the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The HCSF urged federal civil servants to conduct themselves with dignity, restraint and decorum throughout the three-day period, while joining other Nigerians in remembering the fallen personnel.
He said the Federal Civil Service stood in solidarity with the bereaved families and the Armed Forces in mourning the loss.
The personnel died following the crash of a Nigerian Air Force aircraft in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State. The three-day national mourning commenced on Tuesday, October 6.
