CITN, ANAN joint council task professionals on new tax reforms

The Joint Council of Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) have charged accounting professionals to concentrate on capacity building to ensure success in the new tax reforms by the federal government . 

 

President Bola Tinubu had signed the new tax reforms into law waiting for implementation beginning from 2026 fiscal year .

 

Addressing participants during the three day Joint Council Retreat of Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria ( CITN) and Association of National Accountants of Nigeria held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state capital on the theme ” Implementing Fiscal Reforms In Nigeria: Strengthening Strategy, Institutional Synergy, And Professional Excellence” the president of CITN Mr Innocent Ohagwa appealed to government at all levels to partner with the bodies to help navigate through the complex terrain of the fiscal reforms.

 

Ohagwa also encouraged regulatory agencies to strengthen their engagement with tax professionals for success of the new tax regime.

 

His words: ” Governments at sub nationals should prioritise and institutionalise structured stakeholders consultations with bodies such as CITN and ANAN to help navigate through complexities of these fiscal reforms.

 

” Equally, we encourage regulatory agencies to strengthen their engagements with professionals .

 

” Now more than ever, governments at all levels must ensure that their accounting , audit and tax desks are manned by professionals .

 

” These reforms are too critical to be left out to chance; they require partnership, professionalism and purposeful leadership .

 

Ohagwa promised to bring the two professional bodies together to ensure success n the impl of the tax reform .

 

” ANAN and CITN stand ready to support the government in the realization of the of its fiscal reforms . ”

 

In her remarks, the 14th president of Association of National Accountants of Nigeria ( ANAN).

Hajiya Zuwairat Talatu Kishimi, FCNA, reminded participants not to only reflect but resolve to activate on recommendation that will emanate from the retreat

 

“We must not only reflect; we must resolve to activate our joint communiqué with bold recommendations on fiscal reform implementation.

 

“Create permanent joint technical working group on fiscal policy and reform monitoring.

Engage more actively with government and development partners, not as critics but as collaborators.

 

“Together, ANAN and CITN can and must be at the vanguard of this transformation. Let us rise to the challenge with courage, clarity, and commitment”

 

Delivering his goodwill message, Akwa Ibom state Commissioner for Finance Emem.Almond Bob noted that it was necessary for the accounting and tax professionals to stay abreast of the latest developments and best practices in taxation and accounting to prepare the professionals for the tax ahead.

 

” Nigeria today, today stands at the threshold of of critical economic transformation . At the heart of this transformation lies the urgent need to diversify government revenue, strengthen institutions and drive accountability and transparency in public finance management ”

 

However, Akwa Ibom state governor pastor Umo Eno in his message to the professionals said all the programmes of Arise agenda were in the last two years were in line with the Renewed Hope of president Tinubu in the state.

 

Eno who was represented by the Permanent Secretary/Auditor General of the state Elder Isaiah Ntekim hailed the theme of the retreat adding that it would improve internally generated revenue of the state.

 

” This has to go with internally generated revenue generation in the state”
