CIoD Fellows pledge commitment to good governance

The 2026 Fellows of the Chartered Institute of Directors Nigeria (CIoD) have pledged to promote good corporate governance, ethical leadership and responsible directorship in the organisations and institutions they serve.

Speaking on behalf of the newly inducted Fellows, Director Payment Systems Department, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Musa Jimoh, who represented the Deputy Governor, Economic Policy Directorate, Philip Ikeazor delivered the Fellows’ vote of thanks at the 2026 Fellows’ Night and Investiture of the Institute.

Ikeazor expressed appreciation to the CIoD for admitting the awardees into its Fellowship cadre, describing the recognition as both an honour and a call to greater responsibility.

He said the Fellowship was not merely a recognition of professional achievement, but also a reminder of the responsibilities that come with leadership, particularly the need to lead with integrity, sound judgment and a clear sense of duty.

According to him, the Fellows had benefited from the Institute’s programmes and training, which equipped them with knowledge and insights in leadership, corporate governance and responsible directorship.

He stressed that effective corporate governance had become increasingly important as businesses and institutions grappled with complex economic, technological and social challenges.

“Good governance is not simply about compliance with rules; it is about creating institutions that are accountable, transparent and resilient, and capable of delivering sustainable value to their stakeholders,” he said.

Ikeazor added that the induction marked not the end of the Fellows’ professional journey, but the beginning of a greater responsibility to demonstrate the values promoted by the Institute through their conduct and decisions.

He said leadership should be measured not only by the results achieved, but also by how such results were achieved.

“The decisions we take, the standards we set, the people we influence and the institutions we leave behind are all part of our leadership legacy,” he said.

He said the Fellows would strive to maintain high standards of professionalism and integrity while using the knowledge and experience gained through their engagement with the Institute to contribute positively to their organisations, professions and society.

Ikeazor also pledged the Fellows’ continued support for the Institute and its efforts to promote high standards of corporate governance and leadership.

He expressed appreciation to the President of the Institute, Otunba Adetunji Oyebanji, F.CIoD, the Council, Secretariat, facilitators and others who contributed to the development of the Fellows.

He said the awardees accepted the Fellowship with humility and a strong sense of responsibility, promising to justify the confidence placed in them.

The Fellows, he added, would remain committed to promoting the values of the CIoD and contributing to the continued growth and impact of the Institute.
