Chukwu tasks leaders on economic reforms, inclusive governance

Head, Due Process and Public Procurement Bureau, Abia State, Dr. Oluebube Chukwu, has urged leaders across all levels of government to confront the nation’s pressing challenges with sincerity, patriotism and people-centred reforms.

Speaking with journalists in Umuahia, Abia State, in commemoration of the 2025 Independence Day anniversary, Chukwu congratulated President Bola Tinubu and Nigerians, describing the milestone as “65 years of endurance, unity and unwavering hope in the face of daunting challenges.”

He noted, however, that the anniversary comes at a time when Nigeria is grappling with rising inflation, soaring cost of living following fuel subsidy removal, insecurity and unemployment.

According to him, these issues demand urgent policy interventions that prioritize the welfare of citizens over politics. The Isuochi-born technocrat commended Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for what he called “people-focused policies and projects, ” adding that his leadership has restored hope to citizens. He urged Abians to continue to support the governor to consolidate the gains recorded in his administration within the past 29 months.

“This anniversary should go beyond celebration. It should serve as a sober reflection on the state of our nation. The removal of fuel subsidy, dwindling naira value and rising cost of food have left millions of Nigerians, especially women and youths; vulnerable. It is time for leaders to prioritize welfare, accountability and inclusive governance so that independence will have real meaning for ordinary citizens.”  Chukwu, founder of the Oluebube Chukwu Foundation, said women and youths, being the largest demographic, must be placed at the centre of government’s welfare and empowerment initiatives,… warning that neglecting them would widen inequality and stall national growth.

He further called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts in tackling insecurity, strengthening institutions and entrenching due process and transparent procurement systems to rebuild citizens’ trust in governance.

While urging Nigerians to remain hopeful, resilient and prayerful, he expressed optimism that, with collective will and responsible leadership, Nigeria would overcome its present difficulties and assume its rightful place among the comity of nations.
