The Niger Government on Thursday urged residents to adhere strictly to the COVID-19 protocols while celebrating the Christmas.

In a statement signed by Muhammad Idris, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, observing the protocols is necessary to prevent the spread of the virus.

“While we celebrate the Yuletide, it is pertinent to remind us of the adherence to safety protocols, namely physical and social distancing by the general public.

“The fight against the dreaded virus in the state will only succeed if the people of Niger adhere strictly to the safety protocols of COVID-19, so as to help stop the spread,’’ he said.

Idris called on the Christians to emulate the virtues of Jesus Christ during and after Christmas in order to have a secure and peaceful society.

“I wish to urge all and sundry to use the Christmas season to emulate the virtues of Jesus Christ and to extend the Christmas cheers throughout the entire New Year and beyond, he said.

The Commissioner on behalf of the state government wished the people merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

“I wish to enjoin all the people of Niger to reflect and exhibit the fact that this is the season to wish one another joy, love and peace.

“On behalf of the state government we rejoice bountifully with our Christian brothers and sisters in yet another season of joy and thanksgiving in cerebrating the year 2020 Christmas season, as well as the forthcoming New Year’’ he said.
