Chinese President Xi Jinping, has congratulated United States President Donald Trump on the 250th independence anniversary of the United States.

Mao Ning, a Spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Beijing, China.

Mao was asked by a journalist during the Ministry’s regular press conference if President Xi sent congratulatory message to President Trump over the 250th anniversary of American independence.

The Spokesperson said: “This year marks the 250th anniversary of American independence. President Xi Jinping, on behalf of the Chinese government and people, has sent a message of congratulations to U.S. President Donald Trump.”

However, South China Morning Post reports that the development was a new precedent set by President Xi in the China-United States diplomatic ties.

It stated that the development was a departure from convention, adding that Beijing does not usually publicise presidential greetings on July 4.

“But Xi’s message this year follows a flurry of diplomatic efforts to stabilise the volatile relations between the two countries,” the South China Morning Post wrote.
