The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nigeria, on Wednesday, marked the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
In attendance were the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang; the Minister of Power and Director-General of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, Joseph Tegbe; the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dunoma Umar Ahmed; the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai; the Consul General, Consulate General of China in Lagos, Yan Yuqing, amongst others.
In his remarks, Yu said China is advancing national rejuvenation through Chinese modernisation, injecting certainty and creating new opportunities for global development.
Yu also said to embrace China is to embrace the future, adding that to walk with China is to walk with opportunity.
The Chinese envoy further said the year 2026 marked the 105th anniversary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the CPC Central Committee introduced Chinese President Xi Jinping’s thought on party building, systematically answering how to build a long-term governing Marxist party.
He stated that the CPC’s move offered valuable insights for Global South nations, exploring their own development paths, contributing Chinese wisdom to political civilisation and demonstrating the CPC’s global vision.
Yu disclosed that despite a complex global environment and sluggish recovery, China’s economy remained resilient.
“In the first half of this year, China’s GDP grew by 4.7 per cent, securing a strong start for the 15th Five-Year Plan. Backed by the world’s most complete new energy supply chain, China continues to stabilise global energy markets. By fostering new quality productive forces, emerging tech drivers like AI, robotics, and innovative pharmaceuticals are thriving, driving global industrial upgrades through ‘Created by China’.”
“This month marks the first anniversary of President Xi Jinping’s Global Governance Initiative. Over the past year, China formed the Group of Friends of Global Governance and issued key policy papers to address global deficits. The International Organization for Mediation is now operational, resolving its first international dispute. China also led the creation of the World Data Organization and World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization to ensure AI benefits all. This autumn, China will host the Global Governance Forum in Xiong’an to further advance a community with a shared future for mankind,” Yu said.
The Chinese envoy further said China is stepping onto the world stage with growing confidence.
He also said global polls reflected rising favourability towards China, while topics like “Becoming Chinese” or “Chinamaxxing” are trending on social media with views exceeding four billion.
Yu added that more foreign visitors are experiencing immersive Chinese travel, products, and culture, witnessing diverse paths to modernisation first-hand.

Yu recalled that a Nigerian friend recently shared the popular Yoruba phrase “Dá tì e mò” — meaning “the person who recognises themselves” — capturing the essence of mutual understanding.
He said that celebrating 55 years of diplomatic ties, China and Nigeria have grown closer through mutual respect and shared success.
The envoy stated that under the strategic leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the relationship between China and Nigeria has entered the fast lane.
“We highly commend President Tinubu’s structural reforms, macroeconomic stabilisation, and business environment enhancements, which have boosted Nigeria’s economic recovery and created optimal conditions for deeper cooperation.”
“Our practical cooperation is flourishing. Recent agreements on economic partnership and aquatic exports provide strong institutional support for trade expansion. In the first half of this year, bilateral trade reached $18 billion (up 35 per cent), with Chinese imports from Nigeria surging 81 per cent. We also launched Chinese language broadcasts on Voice of Nigeria to deepen cultural bridges.”
“Our future cooperation holds boundless potential. China stands ready to align its 15th Five-Year Plan with President Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope’ Agenda across industrialisation, digital, green, and blue economies. We also invite Nigeria to join the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization to share global tech development.”
“Those who walk the same path go far. Let us empower development through innovation, openness, and sincere cooperation to continuously enrich China-Nigeria friendship and write a new chapter in China-Africa relations,” the Chinese envoy concluded.
