In commemoration of Children’s Day, Filmhouse Group, in collaboration with Shades of Life, hosted an inclusive movie screening at its Lekki cinema.

The sensory-friendly screening was designed specifically for children with diverse needs, underscoring the organisation’s commitment to accessibility and inclusive storytelling. The event featured modified lighting, reduced audio levels, and a relaxed environment, allowing children of all abilities to enjoy the film in comfort. For many of the attendees, it marked their first experience watching a movie in a cinema setting. The choice of Lilo & Stitch, a story centered on love, friendship, and chosen family, resonated deeply with the young audience. The film’s themes provided not just entertainment, but also moments of joy and emotional connection, highlighting the transformative potential of inclusive cinema.

“At Filmhouse Group, diversity and inclusion are not just ideals, they are embedded in the way we design our experiences,” said Kene Okwuosa, Group CEO of Filmhouse Group. “This Children’s Day, we aimed to go beyond celebration by creating a space where every child feels represented and can enjoy the magic of cinema in a way that is comfortable, inclusive, and meaningful to them.”

Funto Ajoku, Supervisor at Shades of Life Care, noted the impact of the initiative: “Thanks to our ongoing partnership with Filmhouse Group, we were able to give our children a moment of joy, and belonging. Watching their faces light up during the screening reminded us of the power of storytelling and inclusion.

“The event highlights the value of creative collaboration in expanding access to cultural experiences. By prioritizing inclusion in its programming, Filmhouse continues to open up new opportunities for children who are often excluded from traditional cinema environments. As families departed with smiles and heartfelt memories, the event stood as a quiet but powerful reminder of cinema’s ability to connect, uplift, and embrace everyone one frame at a time.”
