The Upper Customary Court sitting at Nasarawa Local Government Area has adjourned hearing for a petition filed before it by Senator Isa Aliyu Ndako in attempt to restrict the Sarkin Loko, Alhaji Abubakar Ahmed Sabo from going ahead to install the sarkin Bassa of Loko Development Area, has been adjourned.
Senator Isa Aliyu Ndako , the Wakilin Kyaraku the plentif had in his petition filed before the court requested that the court in her wisdom stopped the Sarkin Loko from appointing a sarkin Bassa, claiming that it would amount to subversion of the culture of the people.
He further claimed that Kyaraku long existed before the creation of Loko as such appointing the Sarkin Bassa by the Sarkin Loko would be the height of injustice meted to Kyaraku community.
In adjourning the case , the Sole Judge Amos Amodu Aso said the defendant counsels pleaded that the letter of summon got to them at a later time hence their inability to make proper preparation to entertaining the case, thereby adjourned hearing to 25th March when the court will sit and preside over the matter.
On an independent findings by our correspondent on the claims of Senator Isa Aliyu Ndako, the first plentiful, revealed that Senator Isa Ndako and others have the authority of all the members of the Kyaraku Ruling House to institute action against the first defendant who is the Sarkin Loko, Abubakar Sabo.
Senator Ndako in his petition to the court claimed that they are all bonafide members of the Kyaraku Ruling House whose ancestors are the original founders and owners of the present Kyaraku .
Positing further that Kyaraku is an independent, separate and district territory with defined boundaries and it has been in existence since 2522.And has been singly dominated by the Nupe tribe as an entity.
Senator Ndako in conclusion to his claims added that it is the exclusive right and preserves of the Kyaraku Ruling House to decide who ascend to the throne of the Wakili or the regent of Kyaraku.
Interacting with some members of the Loko community elders who avail our correspondent information said they will not want their names on print but cautioned against mismanaging the matter.
One of the elder averred that it will be unlawful to make any appointment without recourse to the ruling house. According to him, the Walin Kyaraku is pursuing a just course , but exercises fear on government decision.
” Left to me I would have percified our brother to let go of the matter but since he has taken this action which is supported by some people impray that God alone give him victory” He said.
Another elder who said he is above 70 years and would be the last person to truncate any legitimate cultural belief, said the matter is resolvable if only the two parties especially the sarkin Loko can allow the process to take a historic disposition.
” I am aware of government position to any of their interest , never the less I hold in high respect the leadership of our governor A. A Sule, who has been working hard to settle towns and village with disputes. My wish is that the governor upon receiving this report will call the two parties and settle the matter once and for all” He added.
However, a top government official from Loko Development Area argued that Senator Ndako’s claims is totally in error, saying the former senator has no connection with appointment of the sarkin Bassa.
The official who also did not want his name in print continued” We all respect Ndako as an elder in the community, but kyaraku has nothing to do with Nupe and the Nupe in Loko are not challenging the authority of the sarkin Loko , but Ndako family. Why him? And on what basis. He questioned the involvement of Nupe in Bassa issue.
” In the first place who made him wakilin Kyaraku, kyaraku leadership is not a village leader, but a district head whose appointment must come from the paramount ruler, who is no body but the Sarkin Loko, in the person of Alhaji Abubakar Sabo.
“So kyaraku can not be an entity, Nupe are living in Kyarakun Nupewa which also known as Yelwa. Therefore Ndako’s claims can not hold water, the highest authority in Loko held by Nupe is the Kpetu and Ndako is not from the Kpetu ruling house” He posited.
The official call on the attention of whosoever that is involved in the petition to withdraw from the agitation , saying Loko is a peaceful community under the watch of the Mailoko, His Royal Highness Alhaji Abubakar Sabo , who remains the paramount ruler of Loko.
But in a book published by Senator Isa Aliyu Ndako , giving a brief history of Kyaraku Territory, he highted that by 1522,the Nupawa founded Kyaraku and we’re already settled in it , thus, prior to commencement of colonial administration, kyaraku as an independent territory was governed and control mostly uninherited lands within and beyond the kyaraku river catchment, east and west of the present Loko.
In paragraph six of page 10 captioned : Leadership And Succession Over The Kyaraku Territory, the regent , senator Ndako put it that kyaraku settlement had a long standing established traditional local administration over its people from inception in 1522 up to date. The Kyaraku ruling house have produced 20 rulers over these years comprising of 15 kings from the first sarkin Taadina to the last sarki salihu , before the long interregnum and 5 regents.
” One who served as the Madakin Loko ( Muhammadu Gana from 1919 to 1942)virvil 1922 ,thus patriarchal authority in kyaraku is by the headship of the ruling house.
