The remains of the foremost educator and former Regent Traditional Head of Ichida Community, Chief Simon Amamchukwu Okeke Ezeamama, KSJ, will be buried on Thursday, July 27, 2023.
The late Ichie Enyi of Ichida, who died on April 19, 2023, at the age of 91, was born on January 12, 1932, to the famous Nri Traditionalist, Chief Obiejesi Ezeamama Aghaji of Umunwuga of Amuleri Village, Anaocha LGA, Anambra State.
He was a pillar of society and an active participant in every progressive effort of society, serving in various capacities, including as secretary, Njikoka Local Government Council Association (1959-1960); secretary of St. Theresa’s Church, Ichida Executive Committee (now Parish Council) from 1959 to 1970, Chairman, Health Committee of the Caretaker Committee of the IPU, and chairman of the Ichida Central Market Site Inspection Committee (1977-1980).
Elected to the stool of Ichie by Amuleri Ward in December 1976, he was later appointed the Chairman of Igwe-in-Council by Ndichie after the death of Igwe P.O. Okolo in 1995.
He was the chairman of Ichida Progress Union under the presidency of Sir Afam Ignatius Ezike when the title of Chairman was changed to Regent Traditional Head of Ichida Community.
According to Mr Arinze Ezeamama, the first son and head of the family, the passing of the patriarch at 91 years old calls for celebration rather than mourning because he lived a fulfilled life.
“He gave his life to the service of God and man. Anyone who had contact with him during his lifetime would attest to this fact. His death has created a big vacuum that no one can fill in our lives. But we take solace in God because we regard his death as a transition to a glorious life,” he said.
The burial and funeral ceremony of the late sage, as disclosed by the family, will start on Wednesday, July 26 with a Christian wake at his compound in Amuleri village, Ichida, by 5 pm.
A lying-in-state will follow the next day, July 27, by 8 am at the compound, while a requiem mass is scheduled for 10 am at St Theresa Catholic Church, Ichida. Interment and condolences follow immediately.
The burial ceremony will be wrapped up with a Thanksgiving service on July 30 at St Theresa Catholic Church.
