… Receives Nelson Mandela Leadership Award
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has appointed Chibuokem Onyekwelu as a Youth Ambassador and presented him with the prestigious Nelson Mandela Leadership Award for Excellence and Integrity, a renowned honour recognising exceptional leadership and contributions to Africa’s development, on 9th July.
Announced in an official letter from the West African Youth Council, the appointment recognises his outstanding contributions and distinguished achievements in product design and technology sectors.
The regional body described Onyekwelu as a leading tech talent and a role model for young people across Africa.
Speaking at the event, Williams Seun, Chairman of the ECOWAS Youth Council, stated that the Youth Council created the leadership award to honour youths who have distinguished themselves in various capacities and professions in West Africa.
He added that the Council deemed it fitting to award Onyekwelu the EYC Ambassador Leadership Award for Excellence, based on his representation of young people in the product design and tech sectors.
Chibuokem Onyekwelu was deeply humbled upon receiving the awards, remarking: “These esteemed awards serve as a beacon of inspiration, motivating me to persist in making a meaningful difference in the tech industry and society as a whole.”
Onyekwelu has extensive experience in product engineering and design, with a proven track record of developing innovative solutions that address complex challenges through user-centred design and cutting-edge technology.
