A few days after he opened up on his dream to be the first African to coach Real Madrid, Éric Chelle has shown excitement to dump Nigeria for Olympique de Marseille top job.

According to French newspaper, LaProvence, Chelle has held talks with OM to succeed Roberto De Zerbi.

De Zerbi’s departure from Marseille was confirmed in the early hours of Wednesday morning, leaving the club’s directors in search of a successor.

LaProvence reports: “In addition to Habib Beye, discussions have taken place with Eric Chelle from Provence.

Chelle is very excited about a possible signing with OM. This is a dream for the Nigeria national team coach, who would like to develop an attacking and youth-oriented football style.

L’Équipe also reported on Wednesday (Feb 11, 2026) that Chelle has been proposed as a potential successor to Roberto De Zerbi at Marseille.

The Franco-Malian who led Nigeria to a bronze medal finish at the 2025 AFCON is Morocco, the NFF insists is committed and under contract until 2027.
