Manchester United will face German giants Bayern Munich, while Arsenal have been handed a blockbuster clash with 15-time champions Real Madrid in the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League league phase.
United, returning to Europe’s elite competition after a two-year absence, will host Bayern Munich and travel to Atletico Madrid. They will also face Roma, Sporting, RB Leipzig, Villarreal, Azerbaijan champions Sabah and Como.
Arsenal, meanwhile, will welcome Real Madrid to the Emirates Stadium and travel to Bayern Munich. Mikel Arteta’s side will also meet Borussia Dortmund, Real Betis, Lille, Napoli, Sabah and Slavia Prague.
Arsenal were beaten by Paris Saint-Germain on penalties in last season’s final and will face the French champions again in the competition only if they meet later in the knockout stages.
Defending champions PSG have been handed a difficult league-phase schedule, with Manchester City, Aston Villa and Barcelona among their opponents. PSG will host Barcelona and travel to both Villa Park and the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester City will also face former midfielder Rodri when they travel to Barcelona, after the Spanish international completed a £65m move to the Catalan club this summer. City will host former player Kevin de Bruyne when Napoli visit Manchester.
Aston Villa, returning to the Champions League after a season away, will host PSG and Borussia Dortmund and travel to Barcelona and Galatasaray. Liverpool will face Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, Porto, Club Brugge, Villarreal, Fenerbahce, Lens and LASK.
The league phase begins on September 8, with each of the 36 teams playing eight different opponents four at home and four away. The top eight will qualify directly for the last 16, while teams finishing ninth to 24th will enter a two-legged knockout play-off.
Clubs finishing 25th or lower will be eliminated from European competition. The final is scheduled for June 5, 2027, at the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid.
