• Europe on red alert for planned ISIS terror attack
European cities hosting the Champions League quarterfinal matches are not treating the levity the planned attack by the Islamic State terror group which has issues graphic warnings insinuating that all four of the Champions League quarterfinals in France, Spain and England would be targeted.
Ahead of last nights game between Real Madrid against Manchester City as well as the Atletico Madrid versus Borussia Dortmund, Spanish police activated “all alert systems” deploying over 3,000 Spanish police to streets.
As per Marca, over 3,000 police officers were streets in Madrid for the occasion while intelligence officers were put on extra vigilance.
Anonymous online supporters of the Islamic terror group, ISIS have issued a threat to soccer stadiums across Europe ahead of major games in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League — European soccer’s biggest club competition.
A post disseminated by the pro-ISIS online media outlet, Al Azaim Foundation, showed graphic imagery of a gunman in a balaclava, with the message, “Kill them all,” in large text. The post lists London’s Emirates Stadium, Paris’s Parc de Prince (sic), and Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu as targets.
But UEFA, the body that runs the Champions League competition, said in a statement sent to CBS News on Tuesday that it was “aware of alleged terrorist threats made towards this week’s UEFA Champions League matches and is closely liaising with the authorities at the respective venues.”
“The State Security agencies have designed an operational deployment in which more than 2,000 National Police and Civil Guard agents will participate, to which members of Madrid’s Municipal Police will be added, to ensure the correct development of the two sporting events taking place [Tuesday] and today in the capital.”
“This deployment is coordinated and has the support provided for in the measures that, throughout the territory of the State, establishes the Anti-Terrorist Prevention, Protection and Response Plan for the current level 4 out of 5 of anti-terrorist alert, to which various measures have also been added to prevent these type of contingencies.”
Similarly, France’s interior ministry also confirmed that there would be an increased police presence in Paris on the day of the PSG versus Barca match today.
Security will be “considerably reinforced” when Paris Saint-Germain host Barcelona at the Parc des Princes during their Champions League meeting today after a “threat” from the Islamic State terrorist group.
The Interior Minister for France, Gérald Darmanin, announced yesterday that the government will take further precautions ahead of the quarterfinal between the two clubs in European football’s showpiece competition.
The minister stated, “The police chief, with whom I spoke very early this morning (yesterday), has considerably strengthened security resources following a clear threat publicly mentioned by the Islamic State.”
