CG tasks immigration officers on professionalism

Comptroller General, Immigration Service, Mrs Kemi Nandap, has tasked officers to apply professionalism in discharging their duties: “I want officers to imbibe discipline and be ready to service the people and the nation.

“My aim is to take the approaches as well as reactions attached to inter–agency relationship to the next level. We offer improved services with the creation of e-gate to minimise officers’ interference with passengers at every airport in the country.

“The Federal Government has announced an upward review of passport fees for Nigerians residing within the country, effective September 1, 2024. This decision is part of the broader efforts to maintain and enhance quality and integrity of the Nigerian standard passport, ensuring that its meets international standard and continues to serve as a credible identification document for Nigerian citizens.

She read the riot act to personnel of the service especially those at the nation’s international airports and border formations. She warned them against unethical practices: “The era of impunity is over. There will be consequence for every misconduct. As gatekeepers, Immigration  personnel  can make or mar Nigeria’s reputation among the comity of nations.”

She pledged  to strengthen border security and surveillance to combat security challenges bedevilling the country: “The importance of physical presence, surveillance and data collection to address the security challenges at the country’s borders.”

She charged officers to be honest and diligent in executing the mandate of the service: “Officers must be mindful of borders surveillance. The Nigeria Immigration service nationwide campaign is to mitigate corruption and improve service delivery. These sustained efforts are geared towards ensuring accountability, transparency and culture of excellence in operation.

“Officers and men must remain committed to mitigating corruption, improving service delivery and ethical compliance.

“It is essential that officers should conduct regular monitoring and be physically present on the ground to understand the challenges your teams are facing. We must ensure that our borders are safe and secure. I have assessed our border control mechanism and identified areas that need improvement. We must be effective and efficient in our operation.”
