Catholic Priest, Apagher tasks children on obedience, discipline

From Scholastica Hir, Makurdi

The Parish Administrator of St. Dominic’s Catholic Church Shachi, Makurdi, Benue State, Rev Fr Peter Apagher has charged all children across the nation to be obedient to instructions from parents and elders to enable them lead well when their time comes.

He stated this on Sunday, June 9, 2024, during a Homily at a Mass celebrated to mark the 2024 Children’s Day celebration for the children of St Dominic Catholic Mission, Shachi

Apagher who noted that obedience is important in the life of children of God admonished that as children they must be obedient to their parents and those under whose care they are learning.

He noted that “Obey your parents. Not obeying could lead you into trouble. Many children are going wayward because of disobedience to instructions.

“Today, you see children in our generation going mad because they are disobeying instructions and indulging rather in alcohol, drugs and taking other harmful substances.

“The future of this generation is in the hands of our children and it is only obedient and God fearing children that will liberate this nation.

“So obey your parents. Even the commandments says honour your father and mother. Blessings await any child who obey their parents.

“If you do something wrong and someone disciplines you, be ready to take corrections and God will bless you,” he prayed.

The cleric also cautioned parents not to lead the children into temptation because punishment waits such a person.

“Do not do bad or evil things before the children. Many parents have stopped or discouraged their children from serving in certain societies in church because they attach certain wrong notions to it.

“Parents, do not to leave your Android phones lying anyhow. You will be surprised to see what they are looking at or watching.

“Some parents are ready to fight teachers in schools even when their children are wrong. Today, children will do something wrong and some parents are ready to support them.

“Let us train them in the fear of God. Let us support them to be good leaders,” he said.

He prayed that at the end of the Mass, all the children that have been disobeying instructions will repent and turn a new leaf.

He also prayed that the children will all excell in their academic career and that the word of God which commands them to obey will never depart from their hearts.

The Chairman of the children Mass, Master Shima Manger appreciated the Parish Priest, Rev Fr Peter Apagher and all the parents for supporting them in church and at home and prayed God to keep blessing them abundantly.
