Oyo State Badminton Association is finalising its catch them young programme tagged “Back to school Badminton Holiday Clinic” with a tournament held inside Badminton Hall of the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
The 2-day event, according to the head coach of Oyo Badminton, Janet Ajayi was organised to appraise the youngsters, ranging from ages 7 to 15 that have been attending holiday clinics.
The holiday scouting programme, which was bankrolled by the Chairman of Oyo State Badminton Association, Oba Olatunde Oginni JP was part of many programmes designed to inject new blood into the game in the state.
The basic intention of the programme, coach Ajayi said, is to introduce the game of badminton to the pupils from the early stage and positively engage the kids during school’s vacation.
She added that gift items would be shared to the pupils at the end of the tourney that ends today.
“The kids as young as seven years have shown good prospects of becoming future champions in the game of badminton, hence we want to thank the parents for cooperating with the association by making their wards available for the holiday clinic.
“We also want to thank our chairman, Oba Olatunde Oginni JP for his continuous support to all the activities of the association and his love for the game of badminton,” said the head coach.
