Rivers Hoopers captain Victor Anthony Koko has officially announced his retirement from professional basketball after a remarkable career spanning several years in Nigerian and African basketball, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The 6ft 9in centre/power forward, who hails from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, began his journey with the Rivers Hoopers in 2009 and went on to become one of the most decorated players in the club’s history.
Koko won eight Nigerian Premier League titles during his career, including one with Mark Mentors in 2015 and seven with Rivers Hoopers in 2011, 2012, 2019, 2021, 2023, 2024 and 2026.
He was named NPBL Final MVP in 2021 after producing 14 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks in the championship game against Gombe Bulls.
Koko also played a key role in Rivers Hoopers’ historic run in the Basketball Africa League (BAL), helping the team finish third in 2024.
The KingsMen won the Sahara Conference before defeating Cape Town Tigers 80-57 in the third-place game to record their best-ever BAL finish.
His other honours include the Crown Elite Championship in 2022 and the Louis Edem Invitational Championship in 2023.
At international level, Koko represented Nigeria at the FIBA AfroCan 2019. AfroBasket 2021 and FIBA 3×3 Africa Cup 2019.Reserve Soccer Fields
As captain, he led Rivers Hoopers to multiple BAL appearances and was part of the team’s remarkable unbeaten 13-0 run in 2023. In recognition of his contribution to the club, Rivers Hoopers have officially retired his iconic No. 15 jersey.
The number will no longer be worn by any player and will be preserved as part of the club’s history. Koko leaves the game as one of the most decorated figures in Rivers Hoopers’ history, having combined leadership, consistency and longevity throughout his career.
