The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), FCT Chapter, has rallied its members against any plot by the perceived enemies of the faith to destabilise the Association, which represents the Body of Christ in the FCT.

FCT CAN Chairman Rev Timothy Amakom gave the charge at the award ceremony and public lecture on the response of the Church to the menace of insecurity in the country held in Abuja on Thursday.

The event was also an opportunity to raise funds for the construction of a new secretariat of the FCT Chapter of CAN.

Senior Pastor, Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Pastor Paul Enenche; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; Mr Steve Oronsaye; ex-CDS, Christopher Musa; Northern CAN Chairman, Rev John Hayab; NCPC Executive Secretary, Bishop Stephen Adegbite; Senator Philip Aduda; Chief Joe-Kyari Gadzama, among others, were given different awards for contributions to the growth and development of the Body of Christ in the FCT.

In his welcome remarks, the FCT CAN Chairman challenged the church leaders in the FCT to be strong and bold to carry out the assignments given to them by God, with an assurance that God is ever ready to fight for His people.

He explained that the project was designed to provide befitting administrative space for the umbrella body of Christians in FCT, soliciting the support of all to the project.

The Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC), Bishop Stephen Adegbite, in his remarks encouraged the Christian leaders in the FCT to support the efforts of the government to fix the socioeconomic destiny of Nigeria.

He assured them that the federal government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to the religious freedom and independence of all Nigerians, appealing that they disregard the efforts of mischief makers targeted at causing disunity among Nigerians of different faiths.

Senior Pastor, Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Pastor Paul Enenche, in his charge, encouraged the church leaders to be mindful of the task and responsibility that God has given to them in society.

He encouraged them to grow quality and useful relationships; endeavour to fulfil the purpose for which God created them; unleash their potentials by ensuring that whatever is worth doing is worth doing well; create a generational impact; and finally be ready for eternity at all times.

Similarly, the Chairman of CAN in 19 Northern states and the FCT, Rev John Hayab, lamented the level of persecution being faced by Christians in Nigeria, particularly those in northern Nigeria.

He, however, reaffirmed the commitment of CAN to continue to protect and advance the cause of Christians in Nigeria, especially Christian communities in northern Nigeria.

The former Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, commended the Christian communities in FCT for their prayers and support to him throughout his time as the CDS.

He, however, encouraged them to continue to pray for the peace, unity, and progress of the country, stressing that some enemies within and outside the country are determined to destabilise the country. “We should not allow their evil plans to work. We need to work together to ensure that we protect this country, our faith, and common goals as a nation.”
