The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has expressed deep sorrow over the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft crash near Igbokoda in Ondo State, which claimed the lives of military personnel.
CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, in a statement issued on Tuesday, described the incident as painful and extended the association’s condolences to the families of the deceased, the Nigerian Air Force, the Armed Forces of Nigeria, as well as the Ondo State Government and people.
Okoh said the Christian community in Nigeria was particularly concerned about the bereaved families and colleagues of the victims, noting that personnel of the Armed Forces make enormous sacrifices in the service of the country.
“Their families also bear the weight of those sacrifices,” he said, while praying for God’s comfort for all those affected by the crash.
The CAN president welcomed the decision to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, urging authorities to ensure that the probe was thorough, professional and transparent.
He also called for serious attention to the findings and safety recommendations that would emerge from the investigation.
Okoh stressed the need for continuous efforts to strengthen aviation safety, aircraft maintenance, operational procedures and emergency response systems.

He said such measures were particularly important for military personnel who undertake difficult and dangerous assignments in the service of the nation.
“Every life lost is precious,” the CAN president said, urging relevant authorities to take all necessary steps to prevent avoidable loss of lives in future incidents.
CAN also called on Nigerians to remember the affected families and the Nigerian Air Force in their prayers.
Okoh prayed for the eternal repose of the deceased, comfort for their families and wisdom for those entrusted with the responsibility of protecting lives.
The crash involving the NAF ATR-42 aircraft occurred near Igbokoda, Ondo State, prompting investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
