President Bola Tinubu has been advised to lead ECOWAS in identifying and fighting the root causes of military coup in Africa instead of threatening war after collapse of democracy in member-states.

The Supreme head of the Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria, His Most Eminence, Prophet Solomon Adegboyega Alao, said no life of a Nigerian soldier should be sacrificed for keeping any West African President in power when some of them have violated all tenets of democratic principles in their respective countries.

The clergyman who spoke against the military coup in Niger and Gabon and ECOWAS decision of using military option if negotiations failed in restoring Nigerien President, Mohamed Bazoum in office said ECOWAS should be more interested in preventing military interventions than fighting the consequences of bad governance and respect for the rule of law by some African leaders.

“Where were African leaders when the ousted President of Gabon, Ali Bongo Ondimba was changing the constitution to allow for his third term in office in order to perpetuate himself in office like his father. What has Africa done to change some French foreign policies that are inimical to the growth and development of their former colonies in West Africa?

“What is ECOWAS or OAU doing now against some African leaders that have spent over 30 years in office, manipulating the constitution and electoral process to perpetuate themselves in office. If they are handicapped now to correct all those anomalies and did not see it as a rape on democracy they should better remain silent when the consequences of their actions stared them in the face?” he asked.

The Head of C & S church worldwide said the lesson for Nigeria to learn is that any government that does not obey court judgments or manipulates the electoral process is inviting military coup, noting that respect for the rule of law and good governance are the only way to keep military in their barracks.

Prophet Alao noted that President Tinubu will soon spend 100 days in office and he should begin to examine himself against promises he made to Nigerians.

He said the removal of subsidy has made life unbearable for Nigerians and palliatives have not only been mismanaged but the low hanging fruits have been distributed to card carrying members of ruling political parties in many states.

The clergyman said the best palliative should include reduction of school fees and utility bills, “but sharing of a cup of rice is not only demeaning but ineffective to achieve the desired results.”

Prophet Alao in a statement he personally signed advised the Federal Government to introduce policies that will curb inflation trend, instead of increasing workers salaries astronomically, adding that some palliatives can be introduced for workers that will make lives more comfortable for them.
