A political pressure group in the All Progressives Congress, ( APC), Progressives for Surulere (P4S) has called for a level playing field for all aspirants seeking to represent the ruling party, in the bye-election for Surulere 1 Federal Constituency.
The group, in a statement by its Secretary-General, Mr. Akin Jones Oladimeji, warned that any attempt to impose a candidate on the APC will not augur well for the ruling party in February 3 bye-election.
It accused a top government official from the area of alleged plot to impose a candidate on the APC and warned that it would be counter-productive for the ruling party in February 3 contest.
According to the group, the APC cannot afford to get it wrong in its choice of candidate for the forthcoming bye-election to elect a lawmaker to represent Surulere I Federal Constituency, owing to the fact any move would mean handing victory to the opposition..
It recalled “everyone knows how we virtually lost both the House of Assembly and House of Representatives elections in Surulere 2 Federal constituency to opposition before getting them back after onerous efforts.
“It took full blast support from Asiwaju to coalesce divided camps to work together and we only managed to win with some margin of votes and now he wants to impose a far less popular candidate”.
The group further added that ” already, the opposition support groups and members are jubilant over being handed an opportunity for electoral victory on a platter of gold because they, like everyone else, can easily feel the pulse of Surulere people. “
