The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that the new update on the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will automatically detect and reject differences between figures entered at polling units and those recorded on official result sheets.
Wilfred Ifogah, Deputy Director of Information and Publicity at INEC, speaking on Sunrise Daily, on Channels Tv on Thursday, explained that the new update on BVAS can now read figures on result sheets and cross-check them against the numbers inputted by the presiding officer before tabulation on Form EC8A.
According to him, after votes are counted and results computed at the polling unit, the presiding officer is expected to enter the scores into the BVAS before they are formally recorded on Form EC8A and scanned into the system.

If the figures entered into the device do not match what is reflected on the result sheet, the BVAS will not accept or upload the entry.
“If the figures do not correspond with what is recorded, it will not pick it up,” Ifogah said, noting that the enhancement is aimed at strengthening result integrity at the polling unit level.
He further disclosed that “prior to the Federal Capital Territory elections, INEC conducted a mock trial of the new update on BVAS in 289 polling units across the FCT” to test the new functionality and ensure its effectiveness.
